The deficit that is already down 1/3 of what it was two years ago. But that's not something that gets reported.

Anyway, compare what Allen said in his concession speech to what Harry Reid said about the Republicans not working with the Demograts. The ungrateful whiner makes my point beautifully.

And why should the Democrats pursue a 'revengeful witchhunt'? All those evil Deibold machines seemed to have been hacked in the dems favor.

Perhaps you are right as it looks like George Allen will finally concede in Virginia.

Bush, as the leader of the Republican party, has betrayed the faithful by expanding government instead of reducing it. Bush has left us the legacy of the biggest deficit in history. It will be interesting to see how the Republican party reforms itself for 2008.

One more thought - can't you see how some Repulican voters switched sides this election precisely because of how much money Bush has spent? Even though I don't think a vote for a Democrat is going to fix that perhaps they were the lesser of two evils choice for some moderate Republicans?

It's not at all surprising that people are fed up with recent scandals of corruption as well (Tom Delay, Foley, etc.)

As for maturity, I don't see Democrats pursuing some revengeful witch hunt now that they have control of congress either. Already Pilosi is doing the dance with Bush - but she's just another crafty polictician, so it's not that surprising. If there are any smart Democrats left they won't want to fuck up their bid for the executive branch in 2008 so best not to appear unreasonable for the next 2 years.
This is why I'm cynical about "order being restored to the universe", on the other hand, it will be back to business as usual soon enough.

If only it were a black and white world things would be so much easier to define. I never meant to suggest that Democrats were "good" and Republicans "evil". Sorry if you got that impression. In fact I was being quite cynical I thought in the last statement.

As for where to spend tax dollars, both parties have their costly agendas, the important difference, for me anyhow, pertains to how that money is spent in Iraq.

You might be speaking too soon about lawsuits as the Senate race in Virginia has not been settle yet.

It is refreshing to Bush to admit his mistakes and to see Rumsfeld gone. I hope this trend continues as the politician sit down to discuss what to do about Iraq.

I reject that metaphor. You make the assumption that the Dems are somehow on the good side in all this and I disagree with that assertion. I gringe to think what sort of wasteful government bloat we'll be forced to stomach over and above the wasteful government bloat we've already had to shove down. Remember, the Dems weren't mad at Bush for spending money, they were mad because he wasn't spending ENOUGH. Among the other thousands of reasons they were pissed at him, too.

Also, gloating is fine as far as it goes, but the one thing I've noticed is that the Republicans are taking their defeat gracefully for the most part. I think it shows a maturity the Democrats lack. If things had swung the other way, the news would be filled with stories of all the filed lawsuits.
