Here’s the thing.
I have nothing against people from Mexico coming up here to make a better life for themselves. America, despite the current state of affairs, is still the Land of Opportunity(tm) for anyone willing to work hard and play by the rules. That’s the key, play by the rules.
The thing that really gets me pissed off about this is all of those who come here illegally and act entitled, ENTITLED, to those things reserved for citizens of this county. As if by the mere fact of their presence here they can claim the same rights and entitlements given to American citizens. It’s our own damn fault really. A big part of the American psyche is embodied in the slogan etched on the statue of Liberty. Well, given an inch and take a mile they say, and all those illegals are taking 10 or 15.
Many of them go so far as to say that pretty much all of the southwest belongs to Mexico anyway, that we stole it and it’s high time America gives it back. That all those illegals are just coming back to claim territory that was theirs anyway. I call bullshit on that one. I was born in southern California. I am a NATIVE. I am not Mexican. Does that mean that if southern California became part of Mexico again that I would be grandfathered in as a Mexican citizen?
Right, that would happen. Do you know what the Mexican constitution says about the rights of foreigners and naturalized citizens living in Mexico? Here’s a summary:
• Immigrants and foreign visitors are banned from public political discourse.
• Immigrants and foreigners are denied certain basic property rights.
• Immigrants are denied equal employment rights.
• Immigrants and naturalized citizens will never be treated as real Mexican citizens.
• Immigrants and naturalized citizens are not to be trusted in public service.
• Immigrants and naturalized citizens may never become members of the clergy.
• Private citizens may make citizens arrests of lawbreakers (i.e., illegal immigrants)
and hand them to the authorities.
• Immigrants may be expelled from Mexico for any reason and without due process.
Sounds like Mexico is pretty tough on anyone not a citizen. We’re pretty limp wristed in comparison.
The illegals are coming up here to make a better life for themselves. They are encouraged in large part by such bastions of brains as Ted Kennedy and their own president, Vicente Fox. The leader of their county wants his people to come here and leach off the good will of the American people because his county is a corrupt cesspool and he either lacks the will to fix things or is part of the problem.
So let’s do this: Grant amnesty to those who are here now. No one is questioning their work ethic or their desire to improve their lives. Then we tell Vicente Fox that he no longer has America as a safety valve and that he MUST clean his own house. Then we build that fence.
